ERASMUS+ REGIONAL INFORMATION DAY AND CONFERENCE ON “ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION” HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN

An Erasmus+ Regional Information Day and international conference on “Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education” took place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 21–22 May 2026, with 466 participants from 5 Central Asian countries. The event focused on international cooperation, the Erasmus+ programme, and the role of AI in higher education. Key topics included project proposals, inter-university cooperation, digital transformation, and academic integrity. Uzbekistan’s delegation shared experiences on project quality, responsible AI use, and regional cooperation. The conference concluded with recommendations to advance academic collaboration and innovation in Central Asia.

On 21–22 May, the Erasmus+ Regional Information Day and the international conference “Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education” took place in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The event brought together:

  • 466 participants (440 on-site and 26 online);
  • Representatives from 5 Central Asian countries;
  • Participants from 25 cities;
  • Representatives of 71 higher education institutions.

During the two-day event, representatives of higher education institutions, ministries, National Erasmus+ Offices, and Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE) from the five Central Asian countries discussed the role of the Erasmus+ programme in the region, the development of international cooperation, and the impact of artificial intelligence on higher education.

The delegation from Uzbekistan included Aziza Abdurakhmanova, Coordinator of the National Erasmus+ Office in Uzbekistan, HERE experts Zumrad Usmanova and Ilhom Abdurahmonov, as well as representatives of higher education institutions. During the event, Uzbek participants shared their experiences on improving the quality of Erasmus+ projects, promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence, and strengthening regional cooperation.

Key topics discussed during the conference included:

  • Preparing competitive Erasmus+ project proposals;
  • Strengthening inter-university cooperation across Central Asia;
  • Opportunities and challenges of using artificial intelligence in higher education;
  • Academic integrity, quality assurance, and digital transformation.

At the conclusion of the event, a number of recommendations were developed to further advance international academic cooperation, innovation, and digital transformation. Participants also emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration among Central Asian countries in the field of higher education.
