HEREs Study Visit Successfully Held in Cologne, Germany

The HEREs Study Visit “Future Skills and Beyond: New Curricula and Learning Innovation for STEM Education” was successfully held at TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences, Cologne, Germany. The event brought together Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs), academic leaders, teaching staff, students, and policy representatives to explore future-oriented STEM education and how higher education institutions can respond to global challenges.

Over two intensive days, participants engaged in:

• Discussions on strategic organizational transformation and the evolving role of universities

• Exchanges on innovative and flexible STEM curricula aligned with future skills

• Sessions on AI, immersive learning environments, and Challenge-Based Learning

• Hands-on workshops showcasing technology-enhanced learning approaches

• A study visit to the Metabolon Institute, highlighting circular economy, sustainability, and industry–university collaboration

The programme offered valuable insights into curriculum innovation, digital technologies, and societal engagement, enhancing learning outcomes and preparing graduates for complex real-world challenges.

The study visit provided an important platform for peer learning, experience sharing, and networking, contributing to the ongoing dialogue on modernising higher education and strengthening STEM education across Europe and partner countries.
