Bringing Computational Linguistics to Central Asia!

The Erasmus+ Computational Linguistics project (15.10.2017 - 14.04.2021) was a groundbreaking initiative that introduced the first interdisciplinary Master's programme in Computational Linguistics in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan!
Why was this project important?
While Computational Linguistics has been a growing research area since the early 2000s, there was no structured educational programme in the region. This project bridged the gap between linguistics and IT, ensuring that Uzbek and Kazakh languages are no longer left behind in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and high-tech advancements.
Key Achievements:
-
Developed a Master’s programme in Computational Linguistics for students from linguistics and IT backgrounds.
-
Created blended learning courses, e-books, and NLP tools.
-
Trained academic staff in linguistics and computational technology.
-
Strengthened inter-university collaboration in digital linguistics research.
Partner Universities from Uzbekistan:
-
Urgench State University
-
Tashkent State Uzbek Language and Literature University
-
National University of Uzbekistan
