The Role of the Erasmus+ Programme in Advancing Uzbekistan–Spain Higher Education Cooperation Discussed at a Forum in Madrid
As part of the Uzbekistan–Spain Universities Forum held in Madrid and Barcelona, a panel session entitled “Erasmus+ as a Key Platform for Cooperation between Spain and Uzbekistan” was organized.
The session was dedicated to discussing the achievements, outcomes, and future opportunities of cooperation between higher education institutions of Uzbekistan and Spain within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme.
Among the panel participants was Ilkhom Abdurakhmanov, a member of Erasmus+ Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE) National Team and Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at Namangan State Technical University, who contributed as an expert speaker.
During the session, particular emphasis was placed on the role of the Erasmus+ Programme in modernizing higher education institutions, expanding international cooperation, promoting academic mobility, and strengthening the institutional capacity of universities.
The discussions focused on the following topics:
- The contribution of the Erasmus+ Programme to the development of Uzbekistan’s higher education system;
- The results and sustainability of Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) projects;
- Best practices in the development and management of international grant projects;
- Expanding opportunities for academic cooperation and mobility between universities;
- Upcoming Erasmus+ calls and prospects for new partnerships.
The panel session once again demonstrated the significant role of the Erasmus+ Programme in fostering cooperation between universities in Uzbekistan and Spain. It also served as an effective platform for exchanging ideas on further strengthening international academic collaboration.

The Uzbekistan–Spain Universities Forum continues to facilitate the establishment of new partnerships between higher education institutions of the two countries, the expansion of existing cooperation, and the development of joint initiatives under the Erasmus+ Programme.
