EU Publications: Greening Higher Education in the Western Balkans, Neighbourhood East and South, and Central Asia Regions
The network of Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE) has been in existence since 2007, when it was part of the TEMPUS programme. Its role is to help build the capacity of higher education institutions in third countries not associated to the Erasmus+ programme in four neighbourhood regions: the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Montenegro); Neighbourhood East (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine); South- Mediterranean (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia); and Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan). Each of these countries has a team of HERE nominated by the National Erasmus Office (NEO). This publication – on the greening of higher education in HERE countries: strategies, perspectives, actions – is based on a combination of desk-based research and focus group dialogue. It examines the extent to which the higher education systems in the third countries have actively taken measures to assist the mitigation of, and adaptation to, the threats inherent in rapid and lasting climate change.
The publication, Greening Higher Education in HERE Countries: Strategies, Perspectives, Actions, draws on research and focus group dialogues to explore how higher education systems in these regions are addressing the challenges of climate change. It assesses the measures taken to mitigate and adapt to environmental risks posed by rapid climate change.
A special contribution from Uzbekistan's Higher Education Reform Experts(HEREs) team member, Dr. Asiya Tureniyazova, highlights her case study titled Green Resurgence: Sowing Seeds of Change in the Aral Sea Region. On behalf of the National Erasmus+ Office and the HERE team in Uzbekistan, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Tureniyazova for her remarkable contribution.
