Kick-off Meeting of the Erasmus+ Project “GREENDT”

The kick-off meeting of the Erasmus+ project “GREENDT: Implementing Master Degrees in Environmental Engineering through Sustainable Transition and Societal Change” took place on February 18-19, 2025, at Kimyo International University in Tashkent. The project is coordinated by the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC), Portugal.
The primary objective of GREENDT is to strengthen the expertise of academic staff and students in Uzbekistan’s Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the field of Environmental Engineering (EE) by facilitating knowledge transfer from European Union (EU) HEIs. This initiative aligns with the European Commission’s Green Deal priorities, supporting a sustainable transition in environmental protection. The project aims to enhance students' competencies through an innovative Master’s program, fostering collaboration between Uzbek and European HEIs, promoting best practices, and improving students’ entrepreneurial skills to increase their employability through innovation.
The kick-off meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Higher Education, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, H.E. Mr. Toivo Klaar, Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan, as well as project team members from Uzbekistan and partner universities from Europe.
Expected Outcomes
- Accreditation of a Master's program in Environmental Engineering (EE) (1 ECTS-accredited degree program)
- Development of 12 new courses for the Master’s program
- Creation of didactic materials
- Establishment of 5 new EE laboratories at KIUT, JizPI, FerPI, ASTI, and CAGU
- Launch of an E-learning platform (free for all learners)
- Development of a project web platform (to provide updates on project activities, meetings, training sessions, webinars, and key events)
- Creation of an E-society platform (to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development solutions in Central Asia)
- Facilitation of student mobility opportunities
