ASSESSMENT OF MEDIA LITERACY AMONG LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE STUDENTS: RESULTS OF AN EMPIRICAL STUDY

The article presents the results of an empirical study on the level of media literacy among students of the library and information science field, studying at several higher education institutions (TUIT, Tashkent and Nukus branches of GIICUz, and Karshi State University), based on a questionnaire survey.
The aim of the article is to assess the level of media literacy among library and information science students at the aforementioned higher education institutions and to identify prospects for developing a methodological textbook aimed at enhancing their media literacy.
The analysis of the study results indicates an insufficiently developed knowledge among students in the areas of media education, media content creation using artificial intelligence technologies, and digital security. At the same time, it was found that on issues related to cyberethics and media pedagogy, the majority of students provided correct responses.
The survey results indicate that students in this field demonstrate insufficient awareness of certain theoretical aspects of media literacy, despite having developed practical skills. The obtained results indicate the feasibility of developing specialized educational and methodological materials on media literacy for the training of future library professionals.
